We just got back from a hike in the gorge with some friends from our small group. It was a perfect day for a hike and the trail was awesome! (emi--we must do this one when you get here next!) altogether we hiked about 5 miles and saw 5 waterfalls! here are some pics...

admiring the second waterfall
this waterfall was cool--the trail went behind it and if it was warm enough, we could swim in the little pool:)
breathtaking view from a lookout

apple pie
i finally had a free afternoon to attempt my first apple pie. when we went to the u-pick farm last weekend i specifically bought extra apples to bake my first pie from scratch. after we got home from church today, we ate lunch and while brandon hung out with Alex (our friend from colorado going to lewis and clark college) i found a recipe and got to work. i do believe it was successful (if i do say so myself)! here is a picture after the first round of helpings.
it was so much fun! i love to bake and really love it when i have people to bake for. i will hopefully get lots of practice on sundays while alex is here--i doubt he'll mind a few homemade desserts:)

my babies
last weekend i babysat for Addie. she is now 17 months old...not much of a baby any more, but super adorable still:) i think the reason it was so fun was because she's starting to say words, interact, and just play! i love her so much and think she's the cutest 17 month old alive. here are some pictures of our night together.
loved the camera!
why do all babies love phones?! she also used the camera bag as a purse for the whole night.
playing peek-a-boo around the chair...hilarious:)
And since I haven't posted many pictures of Sammers lately, I thought I'd give you a glimpse into breakfast every morning:)
reaching for the camera
he's getting really good and actually getting the food into his mouth!
the sweetest baby ever:) (i'm not biased)

i don't think i've posted any pictures of our kitchen since we painted it a couple of months ago so here it is! i love that the paint matches PERFECTLY with the plate that Natalie made us for our wedding:)
these are my fresh cut flowers and yummy apples that we got on the farm
just a beautiful picture of Mt. St. Helens and North Portland/Washington at dusk

ahhh the weekend
i love weekends and this one has been perfect. yesterday we had the annual "students vs. staff" softball game at Western. Brandon plays for the staff team although he's a student (and gets quite the harrassment for it!). and like every year, the staff beat the students 12-6:) afterwards they have a big bbq and everyone just hangs out and talks...good times.
then we wandered out to Sauvie Island (about 30 min across town) and went to a U-pick farm. we have done this a couple of times since being here and LOVE everything about it. we love getting our veggies and fruit super fresh, local, cheap, AND we have a lot of fun spending the afternoon walking up and down the rows. i think we will try and do this way more often. i'm most excited about all the yummy apples that i'm going to try and make something out of!(super bummed that i didn't bring my camera!!)
and today we went to our church that we love and talked with people that we are beginning to know. it's nice to feel at home and have some ownership at church. and this afternoon we are DEEP CLEANING our house! much much needed and necessary as we are having our 1st small group meeting at our house on wednesday. this is another thing that we are excited about for the fall. Brandon and I will be leading a young marrieds small group at our house every week. we are not claiming to have all the answers to marriage:) but simply wanted to create a place for us to get to know other young couples and develop living, honest, and close friendships. Please pray for
God to move in our home this fall.
fall...can't believe i'm already saying that word. it seems like summer has only just begun and now the leaves are taunting me as they begin to change. i really like fall...but fall leads to winter and winter i'm not so fond of:) but for now, i'm enjoying all the lovely "end of summer" weather and SUNSHINE!!!

for the last three weeks....
...we have had family with us!
Brandon's mom and dad came into town the night of August 23rd. It was fun to have them here and were able to revisit some places that we saw when they drove us out here as well as visit a couple of new places. George requested that we eat at Hot Pot City again (a little Taiwanese restaurant downtown) as well as go to the Rose Garden. While we worked during the week they headed to the coast where we met up with them at the Tillamook E.R. Not the typical place to have a vaca:) Actually we didn't spend the entire weekend in the ER, thank goodness. We're not sure how, but George got celulitis (on his ankle)while out here and had to go in for regular iv antibiotics for the first couple of days on the coast. Needless to say, we didn't actually walk on the coast very much:) Despite the twist in plans, it was still a great time away with a lot of great conversation with people we love.
So after George and Kathi left on the 31st of August we had a couple of days to get ready for my mom's arrival on the 3rd. This was her first time out here so we had a ton to do! On Thursday she came to work with me. Sam appreciated the extra attention and was perfect as we walked around the Rose Garden and shopped for a little bit:) We spent the rest of the weekend doing everything we could think of including: Multnomah Falls, seeing the Colombia River, shopping some more, visiting the Farmers Market, going to IKEA, going to church, and walking Hawthorne street. It was super busy but so good to have her here with us. She said she was glad to finally be able to see all the things that we talk about. Love you MOM!!
Unfortunately we don't have any pictures with the DelGrosso fam (forgot my camera), but here a few pics from the time with my mom!
Oh, and one more thing. On Sunday (the day my mom left) I woke up with a sore throat. After a short-notice visit to the doctor on Tuesday it turns out that I have strep. i have no idea how i got it or why?! C'est la vie! haha. what can you do?:) it's given me time to finish a book, recuperate from 3 busy weekends, and type this blog.
